Snapdragons often need a longer indoor lead time than quick annuals such as zinnias. That changes both sowing day and shelf-space planning. Keep early flower trays clearly labeled so their slower progress is not mistaken for the pace of every other annual.
Read the fine-seed instructions
Check the packet for depth and light requirements during germination. Tiny seed is easier to manage when labels, medium, and watering equipment are ready first. Avoid burying seed by default simply because that is how you sow larger vegetables.
Compare the earlier window
The calculator uses eight to ten weeks indoors and an outdoor target two weeks before spring frost. With May 1 frost, the example window is February 5 to February 19 for April 17 planting. Variety and local weather should refine that estimate.
Plan the full indoor occupancy
An early sowing means the tray may still need care when later crops arrive on the shelf. Include larger containers and light coverage if required. Harden seedlings and check local cold guidance before using the target date as a planting decision.
- Keep flower varieties identified through every move.
- Separate slow and fast emergence groups when useful.
- Choose final spacing for the specific variety.
Select Snapdragon and Zinnia together in the planner. Their different windows show why one annual-flower sowing weekend may not suit every crop.
